Gregory Bojorquez, Joseph Rodriguez & Miron Zownir

Preview

Photography from 1978 – 2013 feature the work of three photographers : Miron Zownir, Joseph Rodriguez and Gregory Bojorquez.

As the “poet of radical photography”, Miron Zownir has been chronicling the dark side of human existence for more than 30 years, in Western capitals such as Berlin, London and New York as well as in post-communist Eastern Europe. His photos depict outsiders in society: drug addicts, homeless people, prostitutes and minor criminals. Zownir’s radical works have been shown in numerous exhibitions including two exhibitions, Darkside I and Darkside II in the Fotomuseum Winterthur (CH) (2008/2009), where his photos were shown together with works by Araki, Nan Goldin, Robert Mapplethorpe, Weegee and Larry Clark. Twenty-four of his black and white, thought-provoking photos form the largest part of the exhibition.

Joseph Rodriguez, the multi acclaimed documentary photographer from New York is also known for his intimate and accurate portrayal of people who live on the edge of society. Rodriguez’s works were exhibited for the first time last year in Germany in a major retrospective by Hardhitta Gallery. A passion for photography saved Rodriguez from a life of theft and drug dealing. His award winning photos are published regularly in well-known newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times, Der Spiegel and National Geographic. His photos were recently exhibited in the Smithonian American Art Museum in Washington in an exhibition called Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art.

Gregory Bojorquez grew up in East Los Angeles and began his career photographing his friends and neighbors. He gained the confidence of some of LA’s notorious street gangs and began to document their gangland activities. After coming to the attention of L.A. Weekly he has been known to take pictures of such Hollywood greats as Snoop Dogg and Mike Tyson. His photos have been published in Rolling Stone and FHM magazines. In 2011 Bojorquez happened to capture images of riots on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles with his analogue camera. These pictures were published around the world.

Hardhitta Gallery was founded in 2011 as a temporary gallery for contemporary photography by Bene Taschen, son of publisher Benedikt Taschen.
