Gideon Lewin was born in Jerusalem, Israel. He graduated from the Art Center College of Design, in Los Angeles, majoring in advertising and photography. Early in his career, he was studio manager and “right-hand man” to Richard Avedon for 16 years. During this time he collaborated with Richard Avedon on many projects, including printing of major museum exhibitions and editions, working on books, traveling with him extensively for editorial assignments.

Lewin also managed to continually do his own personal work as a photographer. He created an ad campaign for Saks Fifth Avenue, in the late sixties, and ads for many American designers in the seventies, and a campaign for Israeli tourism, “Come to Israel, Come stay with Friends”.

The ‘creative eye’ of Gideon Lewin allowed him to establish his independent studio in 1980. He collaborated with American and European designers on advertising, promotions and books. Notably, his campaigns for Bill Blass, Bob Mackie, Clairol, Hathaway, Martha, Jacobson and Lord and Taylor’s stores and the Venetian in Las Vegas. In many cases he was the photographer as well as the creative director; their ‘creative eye’.
.
Lewin has done the photography and production of 2 books: “Unmistakably Mackie, The fashion and fantasy of Bob Mackie”. “Foie Gras, a Passion”, which included the creations of 63 of the most important chefs of the world. This book received the international book award.
