Galerie XII Paris presents American artist Patty Carroll‘s first exhibition in Paris, “Anonymous Women”.
Selected by Fisheye among the 10 most significant artists on the occasion of their 10th anniversary, Patty Carroll will also be exhibited in several stations of the Paris metro until the end of March.
Recognized American photographer, winner of several awards and exhibited internationally, Patty Carroll has been pursuing her series entitled “Anonymous Women” since 2016.
Inspired by the colorful films of the 1950s, decoration magazines or even traditional still lifes, she stages in her studio female models whose identity is concealed under an accumulation of household objects or camouflaged by draperies.
Built in four chapters, the series questions women and the relationship they have with domestic tasks and the consumer society. Whatever their cultures or origins, all are both victims and responsible. If her images are filled with humor, the message launched by the American artist is darker, questioning the role of women in all societies.
Originally from Illinois, Patty Carrol studied graphic arts and photography at the University of Chicago. She has devoted most of her career to teaching photography, giving lectures and seminars in many American universities and institutions.
