Galerie Regard Sud opens today with an exhibition by Sandra Städeli entitled Natura Profunda. It is presented as follows.
It was in the nocturnal tranquility of winter that the trees were seized by the light, awakened from their sleep.
It was in the daytime torpor of summer that the flowers were enveloped in darkness, asleep in their awakening.
Natura Profunda, two series exploring Nature as a reflection of our own gray areas, a questioning of what we want to show or hide, see or ignore, mixing consciousness and unconsciousness.
With the powerful serenity of the trees, the ephemeral beauty of the flowers, she detects what the darkness wants to tell us,
Experiencing darkness as the place of loss, memory or absence,
Searching in matter for shapes, correspondences, a buried history, outside of time, questioning the fragility and beauty of life,
And she only keeps what the light is willing to give.
Perhaps reaching with a part of this world, a part of ourselves.
Sandra Städeli lives and works between Paris and the Perche (61)
She first followed a career as a director of fiction and documentaries. She also collaborates as a co-screenwriter with several directors whose films are supported by the CNC (National Center for Cinema and Animated Images).
After training at the Gobelins, École de l’Image (Paris), she has completed this cinematographic journey with photography since 2018.
Her work then focuses on exploring a border between shadow and light, this timeless space which delimits forms, this time which oscillates between appearance and disappearance. A photographic time that she compares to psychoanalysis: “Photography is on the border between past and present, between the superficial and the deep, the manifest and the latent (…). It participates in the singular relationships of light and darkness, surface and depth” Jean-Jacques Barreau in Psychoanalysis and Photography / Ed Campagne Première. A quote that underpins her artistic approach to this day.
