Color photos by Guy Le Querrec!
It’s so surprising it becomes interesting.
In fact, it’s a lovely story of friendship that links two photographers, Le Querrec and Garry Winogrand, and a gallery owner from Brest: Guy Bourreau. He describes this exhibition:
Guy (Le Querrec) gave me “carte blanche for color” accepting the highlighting of his photos with this exhibition and the eponymous book published by Dominique Gaesseler at Trans photographic press in May 2023, the book very quickly sold out.
It all started with an exhibition of Garry Winogrand’s color photos at the Brooklyn Museum in May 2019, a fantastic exhibition which led me to ask Guy if he had color photos. After a few months of reflection and confinement, the green light given by Guy saw its outcome at the end of 2020 in terms of content then in 2023 in terms of exhibition and book taking into account all the delays linked to the 2020 pandemic.
What I didn’t know at the time was that Guy and Garry were very close and that Guy invited him to France and contributed, with JC Lemagny in particular, to making his work known and recognized in the ‘hexagon. Far be it from me to think that Garry returned the favor from his beyond, but I really like the idea that friendship was from the start the common thread of this adventure.
