The too little known Frank Horvat presents in an exhibition in Paris forty photographs taken between 1950 and 2013 and constituting a series he himself named CON pictures, which literally means “Stupid Pictures”.
To describe them, he writes: “This trivial attribute, applied to photographs, require an explanation. But I want you to find it yourself. I will only say that if some of them make you smile, you’re on the right track, and you will come quickly to recognize a ‘con’ picture when you see it. (…) That, in a nutshell, is the miracle of a ‘con’photo: it reveals something, but there’s no reason to think that the photographer was aware!”
Edouard Boubat liked to quote Borges: ‘A writer can not be a great writer, if he only writes what he believes to write.’
