In the series Naissance, life and death exist side by side and respond like a shadow, or an alter ego. With a sense of humor and self-mockery, the photographer Francesca di Bonito enacts the inevitable “nature of things.” Grotesque, strangely seductive creatures, these women guide us in an exploration of dreams and fantastic imagery, underscoring their own condition. Hybrid and distorted, they play out a story at the boundary between reality and fiction. Through a process of hybridization, these figures challenge outdated notions and gender stereotypes. This strange farce scoffs at traditions and conventions, at the canonical stages in the life of a woman on her way to become a mother.
