Until the 29th of may, the II International Festival of Photography of Castilla León 2022 presents : I am not promising you a wonderful world, an exhibition by Christina Fontsare. She gave us this text to present it :
I am not promising you a beautiful world
With my tripod and a simple torch, I go out at night to hunt for images, letting myself be carried by my intuition and by what the places offer me, leaving space for the unknown and surprise. It is as if the light of the torch is guided by the gravity of dark matter, hidden in the folds of the night.
Apparently innocent images which, in daylight, would simply be the routine life of any ordinary tourist spot, emerge through the light of my torch, converting the recognisable into the enigmatic. Its the invisible in these pictures that speaks to us.
I am interested in creating tense situations that play on the familiar, the commonplace and the mysterious, artifice and reality, innocence and fear. In that narrative sense of photography; that frozen moment that suggests an ambiguous narrative, a before and an after in the story that viewers will have to interpret or complete depending on their personal experiences.
