Until next March, the National Museum of San Carlos is showing the works of the Italian photographer Ferdinando Scianna. Carmen Gaitan, the Director of the Museum, offered the artist to show his series Lux In Arcana. These images were first published in the book Feste religiose in Sicilia, and they were accompanied by a text written by the great writer Leonardo Sciascia.
The 2015 opening of this exhibition, marks the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of the book. At the time the photographer was only 21 years old.
“The exhibition in this marvellous Mexican museum is particularly interesting for me because my images are shown in relation to important pieces from the museum’s permanent collection from the European baroque period : pictures, drawings, engravings and sculptures.
The result is both surprising and rich in its visual and cultural connections brought about by the contiguity of the languages of art and photography.”
