I wish I could find the words to talk about Göksin.
But talking about a person who was at the same time
a boss,
a visionary,
a mentor,
a confident,
a friend
even perhaps a sort of father….is not an easy thing.
In fact, I doubt I can do it.
All of those who worked at the agency have their own very special and persona image of him. All of them certainly have here a story to tell about a dispute, a negotiation, a burst of laughter or a crying fit.
In fact, to sketch Göksin’s portrait, each one would have to tell his own anecdote…and then, perhaps the portrait would come closer to a resemblance…
In any case, as for me, when I was twenty, I wanted to be a reporter.
I remember my family denigrating that idea.
My own father swore that I would end up alone in an attic room.
Naturally, without a cent.
No one seemed to think that such a life could be possible.
Except Göksin.
Who gave me my chance although I was still a student and my only dream was to travel and to tell stories with my pictures.
It seems that one can create a family for oneself.
Create a family of the heart.
And that, it is SIPA. A family. And even, a very big family.
Göksin was able to bring us all together around him during all those years thanks to his immense force of character, his generosity, and especially his way of showing confidence in us. As in all families, everyone engaged in their own maneuvers, flaunted their differences, tried to find their place…Naturally, we all wanted to please him.
Working with Göksin meant existing in the photo world,
but also existing in his eyes.
The two were linked.
Today, the cards have been reshuffled.
And we are all orphans.
