Fanny Viguier, Finalist Picto Fashion Award 2015

Preview

Fanny Viguier was born in 1987 and embarked on her artistic career at the Nantes school of fine art in 2005. After a year there, she decided to step up embark on more theoretical studies via a degree then master’s in art history at the Sorbonne. She completed her education in the photography department at Les Gobelins in 2013.

While she has always been interested in artistic creation in all its forms, representation of the human body remains the driving force behind her creations, and it is photography that she has chosen as her main form of expression to develop this angle.

Viguier believes the medium offers vast scope for freedom and expresses herself as much through “artistic” images as through fashion photography.

In this selection of images, I first present a dynamic, graphic approach to the body (mainly male) featuring fabrics and colours. Then there is the Creole Soul series which I produced in partnership with Guadeloupian designer Vincent Frédérique. He’s the designer of a collection of men’s clothes that tend to renew with the Guadeloupian regional image. He subtly adds lace, frills, pleats and other details from regional costume to “streetwear” items. The idea was to put fashion to work to the benefit of a cultural identity that is too often reduced to folklore, while contrasting its codes with a contemporary register.
