The beautiful Hôtel de Sauroy on the rue Charlot is offering an exhibition of Denis Bourges’ series Border Life, Olivier Culmann’s The Mid Road, a photographic road-trip through the United States, and several of Meyer’s stories alongside pictures by Caty Jan.
Body and soul enclosed, stuck in an economic system, between religious and economical conflicts, these pictures tell the story of the in between. For more than 20 years, Denis Bourges has been taking pictures of borders, putting walls between men, from noise to silence, an awakening journey into a world, border life.
Olivier Culmann exhibits his cross-country journey from the Canadian to the Mexican borders, a truly American road trip North South, diverging from the typical East West journey. An escape, with a friend, “deep into America”.
Caty Jan’s photography covers several stages in life. It starts by observing birth in several maternity wards, most in Cuban hospitals. Later, she would work on Apprentissage, about young apprentices, becoming adults. Finally, in <em<Ad vitam aeternam (funeral ceremonies) the photographer evokes death.
Meyer reveals African Portraits Décalés, dreamy portraits of Mad in India, transparent Chinese portraits in Tu es l’air and many more. His photographic constructions are a poetic vision of travel, an ironic and gentle transgression.
Exhibition visible from February 05 to 26, 2011
