A great French photographer, Jean Dieuzaide has worked all his life for the recognition of his art. On the occasion of the centenary of his birth, Toulouse City Council is devoting a major retrospective exhibition to him at the Couvent des Jacobins, from 4 December 2021 to 6 March 2022, curated by the photography historian Françoise Denoyelle.
As of today, you can discover “Dieuzaide in the city”, an itinerary highlighting ten emblematic sites in the photographer’s life and work, featuring some thirty large-format prints. The itinerary takes us to places that cannot be ignored and others that are more intimate for an approach to the multiple facets of Jean Dieuzaide’s work, along the lines of the neighbourhoods that he knew so well. His taste and interest in subjects as varied as architecture, science, Romanesque art, cultural life, economic and urban development and photographic experimentation are expressed through sensitive or unexpected points of view.
This tour, designed by the Municipal Archives, guides the visitor in the footsteps of the artist, virtually via the urban-hist.toulouse.fr website, but also in the streets of the city, an original way to discover Toulouse and Jean Dieuzaide.
