As part of their partnership, the InCadaqués Festival and the audiovisual platform The Darkroom Rumour offer you a selection of documentary films to discover in free screenings and special web broadcasts…
This year, the InCadaqués festival is joining forces with The Darkroom Rumour to present a selection of films that echo the festival’s programming, particularly with the “Master Printers” series, which documents the work of Carlos Barrantes, whose prints will be presented at the Philippine Shaefer exhibition, or Diamantino Quintas and his marvelous prints of works by Thomas Mailaender – artist in residence this year at Casa Salvador Dalí – and you can discover the mysterious artist Kurama at the Cadaqués Casino. The selection of films to be screened during the festival will also highlight some of the great photographers of history, an inexhaustible source of inspiration, such as Joel Meyerowitz, Robert Frank and Willy Ronis.

ROLAND DUFAU | CIBACHROME PRINTER More about this film.
THE DARKROOM MASTERS | DIAMANTINO QUINTAS More about this film.
CARLOS BARRANTES | ARTIST AND ARTISAN More about this film.
France – 2012-2015 – 70’ – Director: Thomas Goupille
This is indeed one career within the field of photography, but let us dare to say it: it merits its own exploration. Its function can vary from the production of a simple print, to a true work of art. The masters sign the fine art print next to the photographer.
To print is to interpret, it is far from mechanical: two printers will produce different results from one same image. A little darker here, a little lighter there, adjust the contrasts…
Film director Thomas Goupille take you on a journey that will help you see that the best days of “the lab” still are yet to come!
Sunday, October 2 at 8 PM:
JOEL MEYEROWITZ – THE PULSE OF THE STREET
France – 2016 – 52′ – Director: Philippe Jamet
“Historian, record keeper, artist”: is how Joel Meyerowitz describes himself when talking about his determination to document the 9/11 attacks. The still-smoking ruins revived the fire that drove him in 1962, the start of his photographic stroll (then in black and white) through the streets of NYC. More about this film.
Wednesday, October 5 at 7 PM:
WILLY RONIS, SELF-PORTRAIT OF A PHOTOGRAPHER
France – 2003 – 54′ – Director: Michel Toutain
Willy Ronis embraced with humanism the great social subjects of the 20th century. For this film, he joins in the game of self-portraiture. He looks back on his beginnings, the big issues that shaped his art and the battles he fought so that his photos do not serve as mere illustrations in the press. More about this film.
Friday, October 7 at 7 PM:
LEAVING HOME, COMING HOME: A PORTRAIT OF ROBERT FRANK
United Kingdom – 2004 – 85′ – Director: Gerald Fox
More than just America, Robert Frank is a life of experimentation, of travel, of sensitivity. American by adoption, he returns to his roots in Europe, his apprenticeship and his first photos. Guided by intuition, he gravitates towards the cinema in the early 1960s, won over by the Beat Generation and its poetry… More about this film.
