To celebrate its tenth anniversary, the Cité des Voyageurs in Brussels meets our desire to escape with FACES, an exhibition of a selection of sumptuous portraits by Franco-Belgian photographer Serge Anton.
Journey to the heart of the soul
If curiosity is its driving force, photography is the tool that Serge Anton has been using for more than 30 years to question and share his passions. With FACES, this man of ground fills his fascination for the faces and the furtive moments. As a lover of raw materials, he offers us a face to face with faces – sometimes smooth, sometimes chiseled by the sun and the years – which reflect what the being is hidden deep within him, spiritually and emotionally. No cliché is stolen, they are all the fruit of moments of sharing from which is born this bond of trust so precious that is woven between the subject and the photographer. Africa, cradle of humanity, is at the heart of this beautiful adventure. In front of the immense impressions on canvas – some more than 2m – one gets lost in these piercing glances which plunge in their turn in ours and awake our senses. If the monochrome gives them a dark appearance, it is enough to contemplate them to realize that they bring out what each being to more luminous and that, with a striking intensity.
Serge Anton collaborates with prestigious magazines around the world both in terms of travel and interior decoration. His photographs have been published in numerous books and are regularly exhibited (in Belgium, France, Switzerland, Morocco and the United States). During his travels, his suitcases are filled with many objects, some of which decorate hotels and other restaurants.
The Travelers Spirit
Installed at No. 23 de la Chaussée de Charleroi in Brussels, the Cité Voyageurs offers tailor-made trips designed according to each person’s passions and where emotion predominates in harmony with the destination country, its culture and its inhabitants. For his 10 years, surrounding himself with an artist who takes the same look on the world was therefore obvious. While the “Voyageurs” spirit stands out above all for the quality of the services offered to its customers, respect is one of its central values and, as expressed by its CEO Jean-François Rial, “Travel remains one of the best ways to open up to the universalism of humanity, in a time when we all need it. ”
FACES, it is also a beautiful book published by the house Lannoo. 192 pages of portraits between which are inserted here and there a powerful elephant or a landscape of sand eroded by nature.
Exhibition open to the public from Friday 23 November to Saturday 22 December 2018 from 10h to 19h
