The 17th edition of the Sony World Photography Awards, the leading competition for photographers, is now open for entries. Celebrating the very best in photography today, the Awards welcome photographers of all different skill levels and experience around the globe to submit their best work for free to the Awards’ Professional, Open, Student and Youth competitions.
The Professional competition – closes 12th January 2024, at 13:00 (GMT) – rewards exceptional series of work across 10 categories, both for technical skill and an original approach to storytelling. Photographers can enter all 10 categories (each submitted series must be different) for free. Photographer of the Year wins $25,000, a solo show at Somerset House to coincide with the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition the following year, plus a range of top Sony digital kit and global exposure. The Open competition – closes 5th January 2024, at 13:00 (GMT) – welcomes photographers, both established and emerging, to submit their striking single images across 10 distinct categories. The Student competition – closes 30th November, 2023, at 13:00 (GMT) – provides a platform for photography students worldwide. Designed to challenge students undertaking top degrees / courses at institutions across the globe, the 2024 brief asks students to respond to the theme Home through five to 10 images. Student Photographer of the Year and their university/ institution is awarded a combined total of €30,000 of Sony digital imaging kit and global exposure. Discover more here.
Open to under 19 year-olds, the Youth competition celebrates the photographers of tomorrow. Budding photographers can enter up to three images that interpret the brief ‘Through Your Eyes’ for free. Youth Photographer of the Year is awarded Sony digital imaging kit, global exposure and is also included in the annual exhibi9on and book. Discover more here.
Alongside the four main competitions, the Awards has additional initiatives running alongside the competitions to further promote worldwide talent. These include the Latin America Professional Award; the National & Regional Awards, the European Regional Awards; the Latin America National Award, plus the Alpha Female Award.
Photographers are able to register themselves in the competition using their Facebook, Weibo or Google accounts, as well as uploading images via their Instagram. Entry to the Awards is completely free and photographers are judged anonymously by a panel of industry-leading experts.
