PhotoBrussels celebrates its 9th edition in 46 differents locations! Created in 2016 by Delphine Dumont at the initiative of Hangar, the PhotoBrussels Festival aims to bring together all enthusiasts, stakeholders, and professionals of contemporary photography for one month.
Since 2022, the establishment of the non-profit organization Photo Art and Culture and the creation of a consultation committee have helped strengthen the festival’s reputation and importance. PhotoBrussels Festival is the must-attend event for photography in Brussels. The 9th edition will take place from January 23 to February 23, 2025.
A Word From Delphine Dumont, founder of the festival
“PhotoBrussels Festival perfectly reflects the multifaceted identity of Brussels: a cosmopolitan, vibrant, creative, European capital, deeply human. This festival is much more than just a cultural event; it’s a vibrant celebration of photography at a time when the city becomes a canvas for artistic exploration. Last year, more than 100,000 visitors wandered through the streets of Brussels, discovering exhibition spaces as diverse as they were inspiring. It’s a festivity, an invitation to discover, explore, and above all, be surprised by the richness of contemporary creation.
GATHER
In its nine years, PhotoBrussels Festival has established itself as a unifying event. Photography professionals have come together (see the committee on page 4), getting to know each other, appreciating their similarities as well as their differences, and forging connections that endure beyond the festival. Behind the 46 venues on the tour, hundreds of photographers showcase their work in spaces as varied as galleries, art centers, institutions, and private locations. By bringing all these exhibitions under one banner, PBF highlights the vitality of the Brussels and Belgian art scene. Creation is celebrated here in all its diversity!
DISCOVER
The festival offers a unique opportunity to take stock of contemporary photography. This medium, intrinsically linked to its time, feeds on current themes explored by artists and reveals many facets. Since its invention 200 years ago, photography has constantly evolved with technological advancements, and today, artificial intelligence pushes its boundaries even further. Through 46 artistic proposals, PhotoBrussels Festival explores a wide spectrum of this ever-changing discipline.
EXPLORE
The festival is also a “journey” through the city, a playful exploration that reflects the uniqueness of Brussels: a sprawling metropolis with eclectic architecture and contrasting neighborhoods. Whether by tram, metro, on foot, or by bike, PBF can be discovered along freely chosen routes based on your interests and location. It’s not just an opportunity to discover photography, but also to rediscover Brussels!
MEET
PhotoBrussels Festival offers a program of events that encourages exchanges and encounters. Each venue, in addition to its opening, offers special moments throughout this month dedicated to photography: conferences, workshops, book signings, discussions with artists… The public has the opportunity to better understand the stakes of the medium and engage directly with its key players.”
