In 1983, after a career as a photographer of more than fifty years, Willy Ronis donated all of his work to the French State. To accompany this gesture – which he renews in 1989 – he brings together in albums a selection of his favorite photographs; for each, he writes a text recounting memories and anecdotes, the conditions of shooting, the information relating to his draw.
This exceptional work reproduces the entirety of the content of these albums, unpublished until now. Through 590 photographs, a portrait of Willy Ronis by himself is emerging.
This set is accompanied by a major research work conducted by the Médiathèque du Patrimoine; it aims to accompany and supplement the photographer’s words in the form of an introductory text, an exhaustive bibliography, a technical lexicon and notes on each of the photographs.
