Maurice Renoma fait son cinéma
Far from superficial frivolities and usual aesthetic codes, Maurice Renoma likes the body as a substance, the individual as an energy, and art is left in the hands of chance. Each journey, each travel undertaken by the photograph seems to lead him towards a woman, a mesmerizing and sovereign messenger, of an unknown world. The quiet witness of a movement or a posture, Maurice Renoma hides behind his camera to catch in a better way the unpredictable show, where high contrasts and absence of colours ends up in a palpable illusion. When it is not water or light that metamorphoses his subjects into mythological creatures, the artist himself alters deforms reality, by means of raw materials and digital processing. A creator of tales, the photograph and visual artist opens a window into stories that everyone keeps inside.
Maurice Renoma
Maurice Renoma owes his photographic inspiration to the extraordinary and transgressive fashion, that he invents and practices quite freely, as an art. This audacity results from a self-training as well as a progress off the beaten track of the mainstream art market. The human body, the look and body movements are at the core of his first years of photography, marked by a singular interest in characters – sometimes taken out of the context and restored in an almost movie setting – and images steeped sensuality, exploring the details of a garment on the body, capturing the charm of a lost glance or an intimate ritual. Maurice Renoma captures the moment and finds poetry everywhere. Curious about everything that surrounds him, the look of the photograph is marked with an offbea humour and amused though about our society. A turbulent photographer offering an unvarnished record.
Maurice Renoma’s artworks have been exhibited into more than 150 galleries and prestigious places over North America, Europe and Asia : in New-York, at the the Bertrand Delacroix Gallery in 2013 ; in Miami, at the Markowicz Fine Art Gallery since 2014 and at the National Hotel Miami in 2016 and 2017 ; in Paris, with 3 exhibitions through the capital including the Palais de Tokyo where he was guest-artist of Michel Houellebecq for his exhibition «Rester Vivant » in 2016 ; in Cuba, at La Fabrica de Arte Cubano and the Galeria Habana. Artworks of Maurice Renoma are also part of itinerant exhibitions, mainly in the USA (Washington, Houston, Raleigh in North Carolina).
