Umbrella Arts Gallery is pleased to present H2O, Susan Richman’s Ephemeral series and Lynn Savarese’s Fossar: Icelandic Falls series.
Susan Richman / Ephemeral : Susan’s latest work deals with capturing the ephemeral state of our surroundings by photographing objects created out of ice. The fleeting nature of the melting ice adds a sense of urgency and spontaneity to an otherwise controlled still life. She has crafted the short-lived sculptures by layering colors, embedding plants and by melting and fracturing the frozen forms. Photographing the objects makes permanent the ice sculpture’s temporary state and creates images that blur the lines between painting and photography.
Lynn Savarese / Fossar: Icelandic Falls : Increasingly taking to heart Dylan Thomas’s admonition, “Do not go gentle into that good night….Rage, rage against the dying of the light,” Lynn traveled to some of the world’s more colossal waterfalls this past summer, seeking out expressions of primal rage, but also finding wonderment, repose, and even ecstasy.
Artist Reception: Wed. October 4, 6-8 pm
