Galerie XII Paris presents (Re) Connexions Humaines, the first solo exhibition of Dutch artist Margaret Lansink in Paris.
For Margaret Lansink, winner of the Hariban Prize in 2019, photography is a deeply intuitive art. Her camera has always followed her, through every stage of her life, to capture personal emotions at a given moment, in time and space. She positions herself as a spectator of her own life in an attempt to understand its meaning and cope with it. The interaction between humans and their environment is central to her work. She questions how each being constructs him/herself, according to his/her past, attempting to create a link between the personal and the universal.
The exhibition is devoted to the two chapters that make up the series she initiated in 2017, Borders of Nothingness: On the Mend. With her first images, young women and mysterious landscapes, Margaret Lansink tries to fill the void created by the absence of her daughter. Recently, she symbolizes the reconnection by drawing inspiration from the Japanese technique of kintsugi; she does not seek to make the tears of the past disappear but to celebrate them visually through the use of gold leaf, through delicate collages on Japanese paper.
Like an invitation to (re) connect with oneself, her images invite on a journey through memories, feelings, expectations, fears or desires and leave everyone the freedom to move from dream to reality and vice versa.
Galerie XII was founded by Valerie-Anne Giscard d’Estaing in Paris in 2007 under the name Galerie Photo12. The gallery’s programming aims to exhibit a growing roster of emerging and established photographic artists with an editorial line centered on contemporary figurative photography. The new Los Angeles gallery opened in December 2018. This is the gallery’s third international space along with Galerie XII Paris and Shanghai opened in 2017.
