By approaching Flemish painting, Vincent Gouriou photographer from Brittany gets closest to beauty and intimacy. The subject is modeled by the light in settings where the fragility of appearances can be transformed into the power of fiction. A simple nude body, not erotic but graphic, is taken as an object interacting with another. It is not cold. It is like the other portraits the artist creates, taken in a light and a situation which expresses all the emotion and sensitivity of the model.
Transgender, homosexual, heterosexual. What is sexual identity and gender today? Vincent Gouriou is searching. Drawn in by the margins, he speaks of fractures, like a prism, with profound delicacy. With the finesse of silent dialogue, he signals the passage, the music of an intimacy not afraid of dissonance in a wave of silent images that seduce or disturb but never leave one feeling indifferent.
Vincent Gouriou tries to show the nuances of unique bodies, differences, and resemblances, through photography. He is interested in transformations which can be linked to adolescence, illness, or old age. In this series, he is interested in sexual identity and questions the normal. “I’m looking for what is universal. I try to find a link between these people who are very different, but yet, have something in common: a humanity, perhaps?” This sincere, simple thing that each person has can send someone on a search for oneself.
