On the occasion of Artissima and Torino Art Week, from 3 to 5 November 2023 EXPOSED. Torino Foto Festival will provide the public with the EXPOSED PRELUDE: a series of teaser events staged in collaboration with some of the main cultural institutions around the city of Turin: a genuine visual anticipation of the first edition of the new International Festival of Photography, which – subtitled New Landscapes–Nuovi Paesaggi – will take place in Turin from 2 May to 5 June 2024 under the artistic direction of Menno Liauw and Salvatore Vitale.
Revolving around one of the mainstays of the Italian photographic tradition, EXPOSED proposes a reflection on the current evolution of the photographic medium, its market dynamics and the main challenges and changes facing the world of imagery, with a view to further strengthening the deep bond between Turin and photography.
In this context, EXPOSED PRELUDE will be on show to Turin Art Week visitors, with three days of events dedicated to photography lovers, bringing the public closer to the key themes of the Festival.
In collaboration with Artissima, from 27 October to 5 November 2023, All These Fleeting Perfections is the exhibition curated by Domenico Quaranta at Biblioteca Geisser, offering a reflection on the photographic medium through the work of contemporary artists and historical perspectives. This reflection on the state of photography in this specific transitional moment sets the stage for what will be showcased during EXPOSED 2024, emphasizing the expanded approach to photography that the festival will bring to Turin and present to the audience.
EXPOSED believes in the festival’s necessity to support artists’ production work. Hence, the festival has already established the EXPOSED Grant for Contemporary Photography, an award supporting the creation of new photographic work. In 2023, an international jury evaluated artist nominations from over 40 professionals across continents and shortlisted 5 artists. The winner will be announced on Saturday 4 November 2023 at Gallerie d’Italia at 5,30pm. Alongside the €20,000 award, he/she will have a solo exhibition during the festival in May 2024.
On Sunday 5 November 2023, in collaboration with C2C Club to Club, the FUTURES photographic platform and the design studio Unstated, the video installation Untitled#1 will be presented, created thanks to the work of over 100 emerging photographers. The project fuses photography, video, archive images and artificial intelligence, and will also form an integral part of the live DJ set by the Gang of Ducks.
