From January 23, 2020 to March 7, 2020, L’atelier l’Oeil Vert presents the group exhibition Chacun son arbre (Everyone has a tree), a dialogue between the charcoals of the painter Gilbert Bellan and the representation of the tree in contemporary photography.
Around the theme of the tree, two parallel surfaces meet.
Gilbert Bellan, artist encouraged in the last century by Clemenceau – he is of worse support – is exhibited in very large formats. Charcoal and pastel drawings of powerful and so French oaks are displayed and hold the wall.
There is an anthology of the tree in contemporary photography which covers the entire surface in the style of a cabinet of curiosities. The multiplicity of points of view exposed paradoxically reinforces the solitude and the uniqueness of each print.
The anthropomorphic temptation of drawing is opposed to the raw fact of photography. Tree mirror of man or image of the world, all the looks of the authors of this exhibition attest to the unique way that each of them has to survey the earth.
