Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year, the world’s leading celebration of food photography and film, is open for entries for its 2024 edition.
The competition, now in its 13th year, invites amateur and professional photographers alike to showcase their creativity, vision, and storytelling abilities through the lens of food, with a top prize of £5,000 (GBP) to be won.
“The world seems to be changing at a faster and faster pace, but there is one constant, which is our need for food and food’s centrality to life everywhere on the planet,” says Caroline Kenyon, Founder of the Awards. “Food is the great unifier and the great leveller and photography captures this so powerfully.”
With over 25 categories, ranging from food in the field and for the family, to food portraiture and food politics, the Awards recognise the great diversity of ways in which food touches our lives. For the first time, Tenderstem® partners the popular Bring Home the Harvest category. And in exciting additions for 2024, the Awards is introducing two new categories. The Tiptree Cake Award for images capturing cake, in any setting, anywhere in the world and The James Beard Foundation Award for images in any context that celebrate the people behind America’s food culture – “good food for good” anchored in talent, equity, and sustainability.
Also new for 2024, entry to the Student Food Photographer of the Year category, which is supported by The Royal Photographic Society, will be free to enter. This category is for students (full or part-time) currently attending a photography course at a recognised college or university. Entries may be anything related to food.
As well as the photography categories, the Awards has a Food Film Shorts category, now sponsored by MPB. This is for film, from just a few seconds to 3 minutes long, about food in any context.
In further developments, after three very happy years at The Royal Photographic Society, Bristol, Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year will be returning to central London for its premiere exhibition.
This year’s global judging panel, chaired by legendary food photographer, David Loftus, includes: Claire Reichenbach, CEO, The James Beard Foundation, Tom Athron, CEO, Fortnum & Mason, Nik Sharma, Cookbook author and Photographer, Fiona Shields, Picture Editor, The Guardian and Rein Skullerud, Senior Photographer & Photo Editor, World Food Programme.
