The most comprehensive exhibition about Claudia Schiffer so far includes 100 photographs from three decades by artists such as Ellen von Unwerth, Herb Ritts, Michel Comte, Dominique Issermann, Camilla Akrans, Miles Aldridge, Jürgen Teller, Erwin Wurm and many more.
The exhibition at CWC GALLERY is an homage to Claudia Schiffer and her work with famous photographers. After her breakthrough as a model at the age of 17, Claudia Schiffer is celebrating her 30th anniversary as a supermodel this year. Already her first professional photographs created by Ellen von Unwerth made her world-famous and aroused the interest of numerous fashion designers, Karl Lagerfeld being among them. In the 1990s, Claudia Schiffer emerged as a member of the famous group of supermodels with Cindy Crawford, Tatjana Patitz, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington.
The selection of the exhibited works covers a timespan from the late 1980s until 2011 and presents famous fashion photographs, portraits and nudes. More than 15 artists show their pieces in which they present Claudia Schiffer’s elegance, dignity and her extraordinary artistic understanding. Ellen von Unwerth’s photographs underline Claudia Schiffer’s sex appeal, Miles Aldridge plays with her mutability, Herb Ritts praises her classic beauty and Camilla Akrans cites art history with the help of the German supermodel.
The range of the shown photographs is enormous: For example, the classic approach of Dominique Issermann can be experienced next to the modern and provocative works of Michelangelo Di Battista & Dinos Chapman. The exhibited selection shows Claudia Schiffer’s career and proves her essential role in the history of fashion culture. Moreover, the works also unveil the exceptional synergy between the photographers and her, which is the basis of timeless, intense and precious pieces of art.
