Being Modern: MoMA in Paris is the first exhibition in France to exhibit the museum’s extensive collection presented by The Museum of Modern Art and Foundation Louis Vuitton. The exhibition is curated by Quentin Bajac (Chief Curator of Photography, MoMA) and Katerina Stathopoulou (Assistant Curator, MoMA) and Olivier Michelson (Curator of the Foundation Louis Vuitton). It is on view from October 11, 2017 through March 5, 2018. The exhibition features an installation of Lynn Hershman’s works on the “avatar”, Roberta Breitmore. A fictional person, Robert Breitmore, existed from 1974-1978 through performance, costume and documentation.
The exhibition presents the wide array of artworks that the museum has collected since its conception in 1929, from the early movements of 20th century modern art to Minimalism, Pop and digital works of art. Lynn Hershman is one of the many groundbreaking artists whose work will be on display in this exhibition. As a foremost innovator in media arts, Hershman has received much acclaim for her experimentation in new media formats, including interactive electronic sculptures, video, performance and digital platforms.
