What the Belgian photographer Alexandre Christiaens deliver is not travel photos, but rather photographs of a traveler. Inhabited by another space, by waves and oceans he photographs from a ship, as well as by the elements, fishing nets, and rocks which are echoed by the spine of dog, a tensed back, a woman’s shoulder. Shipyards, caves, temples, and waterfronts make up this photographic journey, this Crystaline network which blends history and reality with legends that are retold every time. To depart, to sail away, to brush against the world and its elements… “to find meaning, chase after and around places, spaces, territories, turn their forms into poetry, engaging them fully, with one’s own body,” explains Alexandre Christiaens. And like Ulysses, in the course of his journey, he too tries to find himself.
