André Carrara is a photographer apart. Fleeing fame like the plague, he cultivates stylism to the point of asceticism and yet he is one of the most sensual and even erotic fashion photographers. A memory, if you will allow me: André Carrara is the first photographer I have met. I was not interested in photography at the time. I had a small film column at the Jardin des Modes (fashion magazine); I had just turned 20. Knowing my dire financial situation, the wonderful head of the then very important photo department, Eleonore Latzarus hired me as a model for an André Carrara shoot in Quiberon! I posed with a sublime girl who never spoke to me and spent her time calling in N.Y an astonishing and very beautiful photographer whom I met later: Pierre Houles, the photographer who took all the photos for Jean-Paul Goude at that time! Because of me, the result of the shoot in Quiberon was a disaster. 10 years later, Helmut Newton asked me to pose for a fashion shoot. 30 seconds later, he threw me out and replaced me with Xavier Moreau!
