When the war started in Ukraine, the first question I asked myself was: what would I take with me if I had to leave, in a hurry, for an indefinite period? And when I began welcoming Ukrainian refugees to my town (whom I still accompany today), I told them about my project, called “the Ukrainian suitcase” (the name a Ukrainian mother gave her son when she packed his luggage for each air attack), which consisted in photographing everything they had in their suitcase when they crossed the border. This studio work was a collaborative effort with all these refugee families, most of whom are still in France.
