Hang Loose philosophy
Suddenly the smell of damp neoprene and SexWax left the back of a van, wafting down to Praia do Tonel in Sagres. It was the fall of 2020, right in the midst of the global pandemic.
A flow of memories from Santa Barbara and SoCal in the late 90’s surfaced.
My feelings connected the moment that my photographer’s brain switched ON:
“I will document this authenticity as real as possible.”
I loaded my Leica Rangefinder with a roll of Kodak TriX and began to roam and witness.
Ten Rolls later, and back in my studio, I realized that Portugal, and especially the Algarve, has become a European factory for surfing and the glorious pursuit of freedom – much as it was back in the day in California decades ago.
