From 23 October to 23 December 2015, Galerie Laurence Esnol is hosting Frénésie du silence, the latest exhibition of Eric Antoine. More than 65 previously unseen works will be on show. Although Antoine persists with the photographic approach applied over the last five years, he is gradually breaking down the boundaries of the intimate environment within which he forced himself to compose his previous images. With his new landscapes, the photographer now lets the subjects come to him.
Héloïse Conesa(1) says that “(Antoine’s) approach is clearly embedded in his sensitivity to the materiality and singularity of the medium. The density found in the images is especially well rendered by the ambrotype process owing to the ambivalence between transparency and opacity, between the visible and invisible.” In an almost sculptural approach, the material retains vital importance in Eric Antoine’s work. The precision of wet collodion underscores the constant search for technical and emotional accuracy.
