EMOP celebrates its tenth edition

Preview

2023 marked the launch of 100 exhibitions between Berlin and Potsdam highlighting the work of more than 500 photographers. A tenth issue which also devotes a captivating exhibition to the theme of touch.

Museums, art galleries or even cultural institutions… In Berlin, everyone has gotten into the rhythm of photography since the beginning of March for the European Month of Photography (EMOP) which has become, according to its editions, one of the most remarkable photography events in Europe. Created in 2004 at the instigation of Kulturprojekte Berlin, EMOP has been celebrating the diversity of photography in Berlin and other cities every other year for twenty years.

From experimental photography to historical archives, via documentary, fashion, landscape or street photography, the festival allows you to (re)discover the works of renowned artists as well as those of young emerging talents. The exhibitions, in the four corners of Berlin, are enhanced by screenings, round tables, workshops and even guided tours. All this in order to highlight the richness and diversity of European photography and to stimulate cultural exchange in Europe and in the world around the eighth art. If EMOP made this Berlin March unique, the good news is that many exhibitions continue beyond.

A large exhibition under the theme of touch

For this 2023 edition placed under the sign of touch, EMOP explores all the polysemy of this very special meaning with an anniversary exhibition. “Touch. The Politics of Touch” brings together in one and the same place several generations of artists whose works have infused and still infuse the Berlin photographic culture. How does an image touch us? How to stay connected to each other in our current society? This beautiful exhibition held at the Amtsalon presents the works of around forty photographers who question the evolution of the relationship to touch over time, embodied in particular by their own photographic practice. Among the artists presented, big names are to be found such as Sybille Bergemann, Ulrike Ottinger, Nan Goldin or Annete Frick. A great opportunity also to admire the work of photographers such as Luise Marchand, Christa Mayer and Heidi Specker.
