To coincide with the exhibition at the Tate Modern in London, Conflict, Time, Photography, Emeric Lhuisset will present his series I heard the first ring of my death. Lhuisset invites viewers to discover his work Maydan, Hundred Portraits through a video documentary produced by Paradox. This series is on display in Cambodia as part of the Photo Phnom Penh Festival 2015, which runs through the end of the month. It will also be featured in the Images Singulières festival next May.

Maydan, Hundred portraits
To cover a conflict, it is not necessary to be ‘‘ a photojournalist’’ and collect snapshots of action. Visiting Maidan square, where protesters gathered in Kiev, Emeric Lhuisset wanted to both witness and try to understand the motivation of the protestors. He who had previously worked in Syria, Iran or Afghanistan questions the representation of conflict and the constitution of the memories by the media. In Kiev, Émeric Lhuisset photographed in the same place 100 people, and asked them to answer a short questionnaire: What is your dream? What do you think the future will look like? A simple device, the same background, the return of the blue and yellow national colors, models stand in front of the photographer and look at him. We are not tied to the drama of the moment and we share a portrait album that is History in it’s moment.
