I have been shooting actively since the early 70’s and published the book, American Diner in 1979 (Harper + Row, New York) with Richard J.S.Gutman, the noted architectural historian. Richard did an annotated history of the dining car dating back to the late 1800’s and I, in parallel, worked on a black and white 85 pages photo essay that told the story of the vernacular architecture, the people who frequented and owned these places and the things within them.
A recent request by an international client to reissue the 1979 book, American Diner, has resulted in an exclusive revised edition. Since the book was published long before the digital age, the images were re-scanned from the original 35mm negatives and medium format transparencies and retouched to bring a new fullness that retained their vibrancy and fidelity. With permission from my original collaborator, Richard J.S. Gutman, his illustrated history was eliminated leaving the 84 page fine art photography portfolio to stand alone.
