Today’s edition’s is dedicated to John Demsey and his photo collection.
It was long time coming, years ago a friend talked to me about him but it took a chance encounter last September for us to meet thanks to Marilyn Gauthier at a New York photo fair.
It has been now almost a year that his book, Behind The Blue Door, has been published.
The opportunity to celebrate its first birthday.
This maximalist mantra celebrates John’s home and his collections, the house itself is so much more than a gorgeous jewel box for them, it is a art piece itself, and a colourful one even in some places where the B&W dominates.
This edition has been “build” around the walls of the house, following how the photographs are arranged all over, by themes and sections as they are in the book.
John Demsey answered our Questionnaire, shared his foreword for the book with the photographs of Douglas Friedman along with excerpts from the text by Alina Cho and quotes from friends.
Diana Vreeland said “The eye has to travel”, behind John Demsey’s blue door, the eye not only travels, he dreams.
Our thanks to John’s team for their help, especially Heather McKenna Pardo and Marley Ward.
