Éditions Contrejour : Gladys

Preview

Éditions Contrejour is publishing Gladys‘ monograph.
Gladys began her career as a photographer at the end of the 1970s and signed her photographs with her first name only. Her first black and white images explore a world where childhood memories, imaginary landscapes and poetic stories coexist. In 1987, Gladys benefited from the Villa Médicis scholarship outside the walls and went to Japan for a residency. The Mamonakou series continues work on the body and writing begun in the mid-1980s. In 1989, she received the Nièpce prize for this series. Throughout her career, Gladys responded to commissions and worked for the press, publishing her images in Le Monde, Libération, Lire, and creating daring compositions for the covers of special issues of Science & Vie magazine. She was also a fashion photographer for Marie-Claire Bis magazine and the Japanese magazine Hi Fashion among others. In 2021, Gladys donated her photographic work to the State.
