On the occasion of the exhibition, LE BAL publishes A Handful of Dust, edited jointly with MACK BOOKS.
David Campany’s ambitious project instantly appealed to LE BAL, which had already worked with him on the inaugural exhibition Anonymous, and to MAC BOOKS, one of the top European art publishers. The result of this collaboration is a reader-friendly publication. In an eminently visual essay, David Campany for the first time combines his unique talent as a writer with his insights as a historian of photography. In a rare gesture, the book devotes as much space to images as it does to the text that is both readable and well documented. An unpretentious image, a snapshot of dust, taken in 1920 in a New York atelier, has thus become “a key to unlocking the hidden order of photography and the revolution it foreshadowed in the history of art.”
