The 363 original photographs put up for sale at this year’s Focus on Cinema, to be held on November 13, place a special emphasis on the sharp, discerning eye of the artist behind the camera — the set, press and studio photographer. For the third consecutive year, the Hôtel Drouot will host an auction devoted entirely to cinema-related photography, to coincide with Paris Month of Photography.
The photos span a virtual century of cinema, from silent film through the 1990s, chronicling an evolution that runs through both cinematic and photographic styles. One exemplary case in point is film noir, which gets a special nod this year.
