Born in Thailand in 1956, Dow Wasiksiri spent his childhood in several Western countries, thanks to his father’s diplomatic career. He took his first picture in New-Zealand at the age of thirteen. He then he studied cinema and photography in the United States he returned to Thailand in 1983, where he started his career as a fashion photographer. He created his own studio « Persona ».
Between 2010 and 2012, Dow Wasiksiri made his series called Local fashion around Kad Luang Market – Chiang Mai, to celebrate the centenary of the biggest market in Thailand (celebrated in 2011). He took his pictures looking around and watching people passing by on the market: “I choose people who are not interested in fashion, who are just themselves“. After that, he looked for background at the local fabric stalls around: vinyl, tablecloth and other fabric that can be used as temporary and tailored background.
Thanks to the spontaneous and interactive character of his work, Dow Wasiksiri honours one of the most important spots of local daily life: ” It also shows you can find anything at any time on the market.“
