Our collaborator Andy Romanoff who lives in Los Angeles sends us this announcement.
Los Angeles is a mess right now and many photographers that live here have been hard hit too. Claudia James Bartlett of Photo LA and Aline Smithson of LENSSCRATCH have organized a fundraiser to help in their recovery. Writing on GoFundMe they say:
“Our urgent goal is to raise $300,000 to provide direct support to photographers who have lost their homes, studios and personal property that is not covered by FEMA, in the Eaton, Palisades, Sunset, and other fires in the Los Angeles area.”
“We are asking for support from photographers, galleries, and collectors from around the world. Our local community is already overwhelmed by the devastation all around them. We hope that readers far from here will also respond.”
Photo LA has supported the photographic community for over thirty years and LENSSCRATCH has been helping the community for over eighteen years. They are committed to distributing funds and contributions to those most affected by these fires, prioritizing based on need.
As a local resident I can testify to the need. We have been housing four people at our place this past week, one of them a woman who lost everything. Watching them spend their days gathering the simple things needed for survival tells me clearly what a giant task awaits those trying to rebuild their professional lives as well.
One last thing, the photos here were shot by Lucas Passmore, a local photographer. The pictures are of his house. That should tell you the whole story. Please help if you can.
