Two series by Dina Goldstein, In the Dollhouse and Fallen Princesses became a viral phenomenon when it was released in 2009. A few months ago, Dina Goldstein unveiled her latest series, In the Dollhouse, a chronicle on the life of Barbie, the world’s most beloved doll, and her husband Ken in their “not-so-happy home.” Barbie loves Ken, but Ken loves another man. While Barbie deals with her dashed hopes for their life together, Ken confronts his sexuality and his failure to be true to himself in their loveless marriage. The series leads us to reflect on the modern human condition and how our thinking has changed with regard to our myths about men and women. The apple is far out of the picture. Based in Vancouver, Canada, Dina Goldstein considers herself a “visual storyteller.” Devoting herself to photojournalism at age 20, she gradually turned towards commercial photography, which better suited her lifestyle. Whether in Goldstein’s reporting, editorial spreads or personal work, the essence of her work lies in the telling of a story.
Dina Goldstein’s work will be exhibited at the Galerie Acte 2 in Paris in June 2013.
