Tormented by the question of living together, Denis Darzacq, photographer represented by the Agency VU presents his latest series, Act. As in his earlier series Ensembles, Bobigny centre ville, Nu, la Chute and Hyper, Darzacq explores an unfamiliar world, showing its subjects in a new light.
In Act, Darzacq depicts the lives of people with mental and physical disabilities in the USA, England and France. Each subject posed in his chosen place , breaking free of his usual environment. With these images, the photographer offers a new look at the disabled, sometimes forcing the viewer to confront what they might rather not see. Darzacq draws a line through conventional images of the disabled, giving them a new freedom of expression through photography.
Act is published by Actes Sud, with a preface by Michel Frizot, and accompanied by an interview between Virgine Chardin and Denis Darzacq. A book signing will take place December 15 at 19h at the Jeu de Paume in Paris. The exhibition Act is currently on display at the Galerie Vu’ through January 7, 2012.
