In parallel to the exhibition featured in the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (MEP), the magazine de l’Air has launched a special edition. As part of its issue 48, on newsstands all summer, the magazine devotes a good amount of its pages to the show in rue de Fourcy. To avoid falling into the catalogue or auto promotion, de l’air has asked 63 figures to make a comment of each of the presented photographs.
This visual right was set in motion by the artists, intellectuals, some in-between, some both, and some neither of the two. On an image that was proposed to them, they left some words. It inspired them with news, flashes, poems, memories, revolting desires… Subjective, short or too long, anguished or distant, these accounts stand out for their sincerity and their integrity. It’s a way to celebrate de l’air, the show and the photographers, but also a way to tell the picture in a different way, without technical, historical or conceptual crutches. In this extraordinary issue, 112 pages, we’ll also recall the portfolios that will nourish the next exhibitions…!
As the one devoted to Olivier Roller, who in his long quest for power, decided to tackle the investors. Bernard Plossu, one of the first de l’air enthusiasts, introduces to readers his friend Luis Baylon, an amazing and tireless Spanish photographer. Guillaume Herbaut, another old compagnon at the magazine de l’air, presents his Riviera de Tchernobyl, a hallucinating reportage taken from his last trip to the area… that allowed him to conquer the Niépce Prize 2011. Finally, Patrick Swirc indulges the magazine with a portrait of a very rare and exquisite actress, Sophie Duez…
