Daniel Denise : My first night in Nancy

Preview

This is the most touching portfolio we have received this month. It comes to us from Daniel Denise and was accompanied by this introductory text and testimonies from his subjects.

“My first night in Nancy” is a project that Corinne Baret, a former journalist, had been thinking about for a long time: gathering testimonies from migrants, with this desire to listen to them speak, rather than talking about them.

How did they get to our city? Why did they really leave their countries, their ties, to undertake the sometimes dangerous journey?

The announcement of a First Street Parliament organized at the end of June in Nancy by migrant aid associations was an opportunity to publish a handful of stories and meetings, to present unique journeys that are often very hard.

In January 2024, Corinne Baret asked me to support her for a future exhibition project and a series of portraits.

This edition is made available in open pricing for the benefit of the association: A roof for Migrants.

This project received the support of the Labo des Histoires Grand Est, the City of Nancy and Departmental Council 54, which graciously printed this booklet.

By chance before the elections and the dissolution of the government, the booklet was released the day before the first round of the legislative elections, giving this initially humanist project a much more political perspective.
