Damien and Florence Bachelot’s favorites

Preview

Earlier this month, AIPAD, the big American photography fair, was held in NY. Florence and Damien Bachelot attended. They tell us and give us their favorites here.

It is very interesting to note how big photo fairs are the perfect reflection of their national markets.

With the notable exception of Paris Photo, whose variety of galleries and the great diversity of photo styles presented are undeniably on an international scale, the others perfectly reflect the nature and specificity of their national markets.

Aipad does not break this rule. Anyone wishing to understand the tastes of American collectors, must engage in the game of walking in the aisles of this beautiful New York fair.

Contemporary photography is present, more and more each year, but a majority of galleries exhibit primarily old black and white photographs whose prints quality is often spectacular. Most of the photographers presented are American, although one can find pictures of foreign artists, mostly internationally renowned big names: Sudek, Cartier Bresson, Avarez Bravo, Giacomelli, Brassaï, Gasparini, etc.

The selection we have made does not intend to be an objective and comprehensive reflection of the 2019 Aipad. It’s just a small part of the thrills we’ve had while browsing the stands.
