In recent years, the use of new technologies has completely changed our social habits. Text messages, photo sharing, social networks: the possibilities to share information about ourselves are endless. Photographs taken on cell phones and shared almost instantaneously play an important role in these new habits. Repositioned Personal, curated by Karen Irvine, explores the relationship between photography and this way to speak about yourself.
Among the works on display, some combine family and community stories, blurring the boundary between the individual and the group. Others examine the ideas of anonymity and privacy which coexist in virtual space. Through different approaches, the artists in Repositioned Personal offers a broad view of social relations by means of photography. Traces of voyeurism and the desire to understand ourselves and others, the works on display implicate the viewer on a personal level.
