“The images are from a series photographed for InterfaceFlor’s 2010 advertising campaign. InterfaceFlor is a global company specializing in designer modular carpeting, advanced floor systems, and fabrics. The 2010 design carpet collection was called “The Memphis Collection,” inspired by the patterns, playful energy, and color of the 1980’s Memphis Movement fathered by the Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass. We also included other references to the 1980’s including art and music, for example using the music of Madonna for one of the web videos. Playroom is a set I designed in the “Memphis” style with it’s use of geometric forms and color and message of “play.” White Room is an homage to the artist Louise Nevelson whose career peaked in the 1980’s. The tag line was “Think Inside The Box.” This image was paired with an image that included “Op Art” and spoke of optical illusion, pattern, and modular living. The Dalmation dog lying on the carpet is an out-take of the “optical illusion” and pattern idea.”
Goef Kern
An American photographer based in Dallas, Geof Kern was first noticed for his work in the press. His universe, surrealist, stylized, and not without humor, has inspired a number of art directors and photographers. He is equally at ease in the world of fashion and advertising.
A selection of his work can be found in the permanent collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris.
