Pougnaud is a painter. She is inspired by theater, with a penchant for set design. She integrates photographs of characters inside her set models. Clark has been a studio photographer for 25 years. He retouches his own pictures.
They have been living and working together for 12 years. “Our pictures evoke the solitude inherent in all human beings. We focus on that feeling of isolation that can surface at all times, despite the number of people together. We always start with the décor, then integrate the people. We take our subjects on a trip through our imagination, then put them into situation. It is a kind of picture-story resulting in one endearing and repulsive image, technical and tactless. We are attached to life like two flies on a window. We observe the world with naïveté and cynicism.”
