Her name is Christiane V. Felscherinow. Thirty-five years ago, her book «We Children of Bahnhof Zoo» (« Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo ») was a shock and was translated in 19 countries.
In October 2013 is coming out a second book in Germany and France, co-written with the journalist Sonja Vukovic : « Christiane F, mein zweites Leben » (Deutscher Levante Verlag) / « Moi, Christiane F., la vie malgré tout » (Flammarion).
The french daily newspaper Le Monde came for the occasion to Berlin to meet Christiane F. and commissionned the famous german photographers Werner and Ute Mahler, co-founders of OSTKREUZ agency in Berlin, to make the cover portrait.
This portrait is made in the lineage of the « Mona Lisas of the suburbs » (« Monalisen der Vorstädte ») series which was the Mahler’s first collaboration. For this series of portraits they travelled three years accross Europe and photographed very young women living in the suburbs of Liverpool, Minsk, Florence, Reykjavik and Berlin.
